Pokémon Speed Calculator: Why Speed Matters
Speed decides which Pokémon attacks first each turn. Moving first can mean knocking out the opponent before it hits you, landing a status move before it sets up, or switching safely. In Pokémon Infinite Fusion, where fusions can change a Pokémon’s Speed a lot, knowing who is faster is often the difference between winning and losing a fight.
This Pokémon Speed Calculator compares any two base Pokémon or Infinite Fusions, applies common Speed modifiers, shows who moves first, and works out how many Speed EVs you need to outspeed the opponent.
How to Use the Pokémon Speed Calculator
- Set up your Pokémon and the opponent. Choose Base or Fusion, then the Pokémon, level, nature, Speed IV and EVs.
- Add battle effects. Speed stages, item, ability, status and Tailwind for each side, plus weather and Trick Room for the field.
- Read the result. The top panel shows each Pokémon’s final Speed and who moves first, with the step-by-step maths under each Pokémon.
- Check the EVs you need. If you’re slower, it tells you the Speed EVs you’d need to outspeed, with your nature and with a Speed-raising nature.
- See the speed tiers. Find out how many base Pokémon yours outspeeds at the same level.
The console buttons work too: up and down change your Pokémon, left and right change the opponent, A picks a random matchup and B swaps the sides.
For a complete battle check, use the Pokémon Damage Calculator after comparing Speed, review defensive matchups with the Pokémon Weakness Calculator, or plan stat investment with the Pokémon EV Calculator and Pokémon IV Calculator.
Pokémon Speed Formula
Pokémon Infinite Fusion uses the same stat formula as the modern main series games:
Speed = ⌊(⌊(2 × Base + IV + ⌊EV ÷ 4⌋) × Level ÷ 100⌋ + 5) × Nature⌋
A Speed-raising nature (Timid, Hasty, Jolly or Naive) multiplies it by 1.1, and a Speed-lowering nature (Brave, Relaxed, Quiet or Sassy) by 0.9. In battle, the following effects then apply.
| Effect | Speed |
|---|---|
| Speed stage +1 / +2 / +6 | 1.5× / 2× / 4× |
| Speed stage −1 / −2 / −6 | ⅔× / ½× / ¼× |
| Choice Scarf | 1.5× |
| Iron Ball, Macho Brace, Power items | 0.5× |
| Swift Swim (rain), Chlorophyll (sun), Sand Rush (sandstorm), Slush Rush (hail) | 2× |
| Quick Feet with a status condition | 1.5×, and paralysis doesn’t lower Speed |
| Unburden after its item is used | 2× |
| Slow Start (first 5 turns) | 0.5× |
| Tailwind | 2× |
| Paralysis | 0.5× (0.25× in older games) |
| Trick Room | Slower Pokémon move first |
Priority moves beat Speed
Speed only decides the order between moves with the same priority. Moves like Quick Attack, Aqua Jet, Mach Punch, Bullet Punch, Shadow Sneak, Ice Shard and Extreme Speed have higher priority, so they go first no matter how fast the opponent is. Moves like Trick Room and Whirlwind have negative priority and go last. Keep that in mind even when the calculator says you are slower.
Pokémon Infinite Fusion Speed Calculator
A fusion’s base Speed comes two-thirds from the body and one-third from the head. So if you want a fast fusion, put the faster Pokémon in the body. For example, a slow special attacker as the head with a fast Pokémon as the body keeps the head’s Special Attack and gets much of the body’s Speed. Compare both orders in the fusion calculator, plan the Speed EVs with the EV calculator, and check the damage you’d do first with the damage calculator.
Frequently asked questions
How is a Pokémon's Speed calculated?
Speed = ⌊(⌊(2 × Base + IV + ⌊EV ÷ 4⌋) × Level ÷ 100⌋ + 5) × Nature⌋. The nature multiplier is 1.1 for natures that raise Speed and 0.9 for ones that lower it. In battle, Speed stages, items, abilities, Tailwind and paralysis then change it.
Who moves first in Pokémon?
Moves with higher priority always go first, such as Quick Attack or Extreme Speed. When both moves have the same priority, the Pokémon with the higher Speed moves first. If the Speed is equal, the game picks one at random.
What does Trick Room do?
Trick Room reverses the order for five turns, so slower Pokémon move first. Priority still applies. Turn on Trick Room in the calculator to see the order under it.
How much does Choice Scarf or Tailwind raise Speed?
Choice Scarf multiplies Speed by 1.5. Tailwind doubles the Speed of every Pokémon on that side for four turns. A +1 Speed stage is also 1.5×, and +2 is 2×.
How much does paralysis lower Speed?
In modern games paralysis halves Speed, and older games cut it to a quarter. The calculator lets you choose which rule to use.
Does the speed calculator work for Infinite Fusion Pokémon?
Yes. In fusion mode it uses the fusion's own base Speed, which comes two-thirds from the body and one-third from the head, so a fast body makes a fast fusion.
